Process Pump's Power Ends and Lube Upgrading

Experience shows that upgrading pump power ends makes economic sense. Improving bearings, bearing housing protection seals that prevent lube contamination, and optimizing lubricant delivery methods for bearings, are steps that deserve the attention from pump owner-operators. However, some pump manufacturers will, for a variety of reasons, withhold improvement details and opportunities from their customers. The seller-manufacturer may rationalize non-disclosure of these opportunities because (a): There is fear that buyers will be unhappy if the manufacturer’s offer or proposal implies that better products are feasible and (b): Neither seller nor buyer know the payback period for the incremental dollars spent for such improvements.
